The apps
Every PennyOS app, its jump letter, and what it needs to work. Open any one for its keys and how it works.
Apps are grouped by what they need, because that decides whether they work on a train. Each page lists the app's keys, what it does with no network, and where its data comes from.
Works with nothing
No network, no server. The offline core.
- n Notes: Plain text files, saved on every key, synced to your inbox.
- j Journal: One page a day, behind the PIN.
- v Vault: Your wiki, read only, from a mirror on the card.
- k Keys: The keymap card, on the device.
- c Clock: The face the screen wears when you are not typing.
- x Settings: Seven groups, plus About, Reboot and Power off.
- p Solitaire: Klondike, draw one, keyboard only.
Needs the internet
A hotspot or Wi-Fi is enough. Your server is not involved.
- f Field: The first twenty minutes in a city you do not know.
- r News: Your feeds, readable offline, read state shared with glasses.
- w Weather: Now, the week, air, sky and ground, for any saved place.
- t Store: Who owns and who is leasing a storefront. San Francisco only.
- i Link: Pair with G2 glasses: type on the Beepy, read on your face.
Needs your server
Reached over SSH through the gate, at home or over Tailscale.
- a Ask: Claude, run in your vault, drawn as a page.
- q Chat: A local model on your server, answering from your wiki.
- m Mail: Your inbox, read only. The account lives on your server.
- g Glance: What is overdue in your vault, in three lines.
- o Search: Public records lookups, run on your server.
- u Usage: Your Claude limits and token counts, from your server.
Keys every app shares
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Back | Up one screen, and closes a menu or a text box. |
| Enter | Opens or selects. |
| Meta arrows or touchpad | Move. Berry then E S D W. |
| End Call, held one second | Home, from anywhere. |
| Ctrl+t | The terminal, after the PIN. |
The footer of every app names its own keys, so you rarely need this page on the device.
